Have you noticed that pockets in women’s and girls’ clothes are often TINY or missing altogether? Why?! What are we supposed to do with all our treasures, snacks, and secret notes?! At the end of Miri and Jade’s New Clothes, there’s an illustration of teenage Maya wearing a skirt I made from recycled jeans—complete with lots of pockets, of course! Because if I’m going to upcycle denim, you better believe I’m keeping all the pockets. After all, fashion should be fun, functional, and ready for adventure!
